FAQ: What is franchising?

A common question is what franchising really is? Here is the short answer:


Franchising is a system where the franchisor lends his brand and business modell etc to a franchisee, who pays a royalty for the use of the concept. A franchise is often a well established business concepts that are scalable.

  1. In my opinion meaning of franchise is the right to use someone else's business system. As a franchisee, you purchase this right by means of a franchise fee and in accordance with a contract, called a franchise agreement. In return, the franchiser maintains the business process and you agree to operate your business according to their model.
